F-150 Diesel Set to Debut?

Sporting manufacturer plates, a distinctly diesel F-150 has been spotted prowling around Ford's Dearborn HQ.

Note the Venturi exhaust tip, a common feature on Ford's SuperDuty diesels. According to Autoguide, the photographer also relayed there was that tell-tale diesel clatter. The birds word has the Diesel F-150 using a new 3.0L V6 Turbodiesel that could be related to the new 3.0L diesel coming to a Range Rover near you.

Expect the truck with 250 hp and north of 400 lb-ft of torque. Also look for Ford's new 10 speed gearbox to make it's debut with the new motor.

“We do not speculate about future products. While diesel is a solution, it is not the solution,” Mike Levine, Ford trucks communication manager told Autoblog. “EcoBoost offers the ideal combination of performance and fuel economy that over 60 percent of F-150 customers are choosing.”

What that sounds like is Ford trying to keep the mileage shoppers buying EcoBoosts for the time being. However with the truck likely to launch in late 2016, we would expect the truck to make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month.

I feel skeptical. On the one hand the diesel F-150 has been spotted but Mike Levine says that diesel is "not the solution".

Mike Levine is trying to keep people buying 2.7L Ecoboosts for fuel economy. If he says yes diesel is coming the bottom falls out of F-150 sales which as essentially powered by ECoboost.

Do they get a larger profit from ECoboost sales? Why do they want to keep the ECoboost sales up?

Because ecoboost sales are bascially floating all F-150 sales. Ecoboost goes away and the bottom falls out of Fords claim of best selling truck.

Especially at this time of year when everything is being moved at blowout pricing. Can't hurt the numbers, can't hurt the numbers, can't hurt the numbers...

they wouldn't be in the red so to speak. GM regularly beats them with the GMC and Chevy combined. People buy on popularity.
