Apple or Android?

Good news sports fans, Ford just announced that all model-year 2017 vehicles will be available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as part of Fords growing Sync infotainment platform.

Ford says they will first offer CarPlay and Android Auto on the upcoming 2017 Escape, set to debut sometime this spring.

However owners of 2016 models equipped with Sync 3 will be eligible for upgrade later this year.

“Sync allows customers to bring the smartphone technology they’re comfortable with into a vehicle and use it without hassle,” Don Butler, executive director, Connected Vehicle and Services for Ford, said in a statement.

So it's a system that works like a smartphone mirror? Whatever your phone is SYNC should be able to connect to it?

if you have an iphone car play works, if you have an android AA works. If you have neither, too bad. No if you have neither you just use the regular SYNC 3 interface.

Doesn't SYNC 3 work like AA?

I have no idea what you're talking about...

Android Auto piggybacks SYNC 3. Without SYNC, AA doesn't work...

Thought Sync was it's own piece of tech separate from AA. Didn;t know AA piggybacks on Sync.

Androis Auto and CP are functions of SYNC. SYNC is a QNX architecture, AA/CP are essentially highly polished mirrors.

They are more about the presentation and layout than anything. User interface, that kind of thing.

For sure, that's what it comes down to... ability to use the system and how effective in using it. If they can perfect that it will keep away most negative talk since everything else people will be a bit okay with.
