Ford F-150 Production Suspended Due To Supplier Fire

Those looking tocustom order a F-150 may have a longer than usual wait as production of Fordís most popular truck has been suspended.

Last week an explosion ripped through the Meridian Magnesium Products plant in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, injuring two people and severely damaging the factory itself. Whatís so special about this plant is the magnesium radiator support structure they supply Ford with. Itís the part that holds radiators on the trucks and Meridian is the Fordís on supplier of this part in the States.

ďTaken together, Ford will be forced to delay regular weekly delivery of 15,000 vehicles. More ominously, analysts are saying that delays could continue for several weeksĒ, reports Auto123.

Ford currently has an estimated 84-day supply of the F-150, which means customers wonít immediately feel the consequence of this shortage. But depending on the length of the production suspension, dealers' inventories may fall below 50-days and thatís when buyers may find it hard to locate the exact engine or cab configuration they want.

A long delay is risky for Ford considering how the F-Series trucks are responsible for about 28% of Fordís total sales last year with $41 billion in revenue. The first four months of this year alone saw 287,000 units sold, a 4% increase compared to last year.

Now Ford is scrambling to find a solution with Meridian.
